What is The Instagib Project?
The Instagib Project is an attempt at creating a Free Universal Stand-Alone Instagib Game. The game will feature the Quake 3 Engine, and will try to have a little bit of every Instagib mod ever made for any game.
What is Instagib?
Instagib is a very popular mod which has been created and is still being created for many games out there. Practically every 3D shooter game that has been created has an Instagib mod.
Every Instagib mod usually involves having only one weapon, which is usually a precision long-range one, such as the Railgun in Quake 3, or the Tenloss Disruptor Rifle in Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy. The weapon is packed with unlimited ammo, and every shot kills the opponent in just one shot, called a 'gib' or 'instakill'. Then there's minor differences among mods, for example Jedi Outcast/Academy and Quake 3 benefit from 'power-up' types of boosts which add to the game play. For example, in Jedi Outcast/Academy, there's force powers, such as Force Speed, which allows the player to move faster for a period of time, the equivalent of haste in Quake 3. As well as Force Seeing, which allows players to see through walls temporarily, and much more.
At first, one might think that the game is quite boring, since it has few weapons and unlimited ammo, and one shot kills. However, that's what adds to the fun. The pressure and anxiety builds up and Instagib games are usually very fast paced. One might think that they are nothing more than 'hit and miss' types of games which require no skill, but it's the complete opposite. From personal experience, I can prove that there are in fact skills which could be developed and benefited from. Instagib is a game which benefits from and builds upon fast reaction times and reflexes. All in all, it is a very fast paced, action packed game which many people love.
Why Create The Instagib Project?
The Instagib communities in each game are usually small compared to the base game, yet the small communities are fully devoted to this adrenaline pumping, exhilarating game dubbed Instagib. No longer do we just want to be a little sub-community which is often ignored, watching more and more Instagib servers go down because the noble people who pay for them are losing interest because less and less people are playing.
At first I had an idea which was to create an ‘Instagib Alliance‘, where we would make a site and forums and various other resources available for all of the Instagib Fanatics in every game where it’s available so that every Instagib Fanatic could somehow relate to the others and therefore create a stronger bond.
But things changed and the Quake 3 Engine Source was released under the GPL. Before this, it had always been my dream to buy the engine (Which had cost over hundreds of thousands of dollars) so that I could somehow make an Instagib game, a free one that could be distributed to everyone who’d want to play it, and therefore have a huge and central, universal Instagib community.
Well, now that it’s possible, I’ve quickly gone into development of it. I started in February 20 something, 2006. I’m very passionate about Instagib and hopefully you will like the game.

- An Intelligent Cross-Hair which turns red when placed over enemies and green when placed over teammates
- Ability to remove the delay between dieing and re-spawning, resulting in an extremely fast paced game
- OGG Vorbis support
- Can play OGG Vorbis files while in game (ex. To listen to music)
- The ability to use Q3 and Q3:TA models in the same game
- Notification of who captured a flag when they do
- Flag timer which tells you how long you had the flag before you dropped it or captured it
